3 Ways to Position Your Side Gig as a Resource

A resource is somebody who people can look to for helpful content, advice, or who they can network through.

Positioning yourself as a resource doesn’t only get you on the good side of potential clients and make them raving fans. It also builds your personal brand as they refer you to their friends and eventually become your clients.

All in all, it bolsters your reputation as an expert in the field who has valuable content and valuable connections. This gets you more clients and a larger audience. It’s one of the best things you can do to build your personal brand.

Here are three ways to become a resource.

1. Provide Value and Give Freely

People want content that is valuable to them. If you post advice and tips that you are an expert in on your social media pages, blogs, and within social media groups, then you are delivering content to people that they’ll find valuable.

People often need to dip their toes in the water to check the temperature before they jump in. The same goes for business. People won’t become your client until they know that you have content that provides value to them.

If you give your content freely, they can dip their toe in the water. If your content provides value, they’ll jump in the water. They’ll become your client and they’ll be happy to be your client. The more happy clients you have, the stronger your brand is.

2. Become a Never-Ending Fountain of Helpful Advice

As I stated, you are providing valuable content to people when you post advice and tips on social media pages, blogs, and within social media groups. If you can become a consistent source of helpful advice by posting this content frequently, then people are going to associate your brand with helpful content that they can confide in for advice.

Make sure you are thorough in your advice and not vague. People are investing time and energy to read through your advice and if you advise them to do something without explaining how to do it or why to do it, they’ll think of your blog or social media post as a waste of their time. You can be sure they won’t return. By being thorough they’ll be delighted to read your content whenever you post it and they’ll rave about you to their friends.

3. Connect People

Distinguish yourself as a networker. If you’ve proven your brand’s content as helpful, then people will come to read your blog post or social media post to solve their problems.

Sometimes you won’t be able to solve all their problems. That’s okay. You can connect them to other experts or resources to help solve their problems. The people you refer them to will be sure to return the favor, which will land you more clients and a larger audience.

Positioning Your Side Gig as a Resource Builds Its Brand.

The key to becoming a resource is to provide value freely. People will begin by investing their time and attention in you. From there, you can become a valued resource that constantly confide in.

If you offer advice that solves their problems or give them referrals to people who solve their problems, then they’ll start investing their money as well. Even if they don’t, they’ll become a part of your audience and they’ll become raving fans. Few things can build your brand so efficiently and effectively.
